If we turn to using the name Open Dylan for the Dylan Community I
suggest that the Dylan implementations are named after their roots.
So one will be known as GD (Gwydion Dylan) and has its roots in the
CMU's Gywdion Project. For the other implemenation it depends on your
viewpoint who you view as root. Functional Objects contributed the code,
but the implementation itsself has its root in the work of Harlequin. I
prefer to use Harlequin as root. So the other implementation will be
named HD (Harlequin Dylan) and has its roots in the work of Harlequin.
Also most of the documents provided with the FunDev sources are
originally Harlequin documents.
May be it is necessary to distinguish the Harlequin rooted version more
strongly from the original HD of the old days. In this case I would come
up with the implementation names like
* Odegwy for Open Dylan Environment GWYdion based
Looks better than ODeGWY or ODEGWY
* Odequin for Open Dylan Environment HarleQUIN based
The site than would have URLs like
http://www.opendylan.org/downloads/gwydion
http://www.opendylan.org/downloads/harlequin
or even better from my point of view
http://www.opendylan.org/downloads/ode/gwy
http://www.opendylan.org/downloads/ode/quin
BTW a new verison umbrelling both implementation could be named
http://www.opendylan.org/downloads/ode/sext
To understand it: In german musical intervals are called Quinte, Sexte,
Septime. The english terms are perfect 5th, major 6th, major 7th.
Oh, may be this is also a minor reminiscence of Jonathan Bachrach poster
presentation of his Dylan implemenation back in 1993 at the
INTERNATIONAL COMPUTER MUSIC CONFERENCE in Waseda University, Tokyo,
Japan.
My cents,
