Status information related to the discussion:
Using the name Open Dylan to refer to the umbrella group
maintaining both Dylan implementations
and
coming up with a different name for The Dylan Implementation
On the #dylan channel, see 2006/10/24 and 2006/10/25,
the discussion reached a new status.
( Note: The #dylan log is browseable by date
via http://www.ircbrowse.com/cdates.html?channel=dylan
and searchable via http://www.ircbrowse.com/search.html )
* Peter Housel votes against using the name Open Dylan to refer to the
umbrella group:
"I'm still in favor of calling the implementation Open Dylan,
and picking another name for the umbrella group."
Peter Housel is one of the main contributors who ensured that Open Dylan
is runnable, his statement has the value of a veto. So the discussion
changed to searching a new name for the umbrella group maintaining the
Dylan implementations.
* On the channel there were several suggestions how to name the umbrella
group:
** Dylan Hackers
** Dylan Labs
** Dylan Language Group
** Dylan Language Foundation,
** Dylan Software Foundation,
** (the) Dylan Project
* Carl Gay argued that "Foundation is definitely more CV-friendly than
Group though".
* Peter Housel clearly stated his interest in establishing a Foundation
and expects that this will "cost around $400 or so." per year.
As far as I followed the discussion there was no commitment to any of
the suggested names.
Summarizing the discussion
----------------------------
open tasks are
* Choosing a name
* Present information related to "How to establish a Foundation"
A suggestion from the writer of this protocol:
. First form the group who will establish the Foundation
. Give them the right to choose the new name
Please reply to this mail
-------------------------
. If like to be a founder member of a Dylan related foundation.
The protocol writer thinks it is import that it is transparent
to rest of Dylan community who likes to be a founder member.
So, please, do not ignore this.
. If you feel this discussion protocol misses an important point
of the related #dylan discussion.
