Wow, you were faster reposting my problem to this list than I was
registering my e-mail for the list ;-)

Meanwhile I have also tried to bootstrap the SVN checkout directly with
the 1.0beta3 binaries, but that results in a crash of the code generator
in stage 2 of the bootstrapping process -- I guess that's precisely the
problem why the build instructions said one should first create a
bootstrapping compiler by hand and not use the 1.0beta3 binaries directly.
