Hello Jonathan,
as far as I know the contents of the binary distribution archives for
all the unixoid systems are equivalent. The difference in binary size
between Linux and MacOS X may be due to the fact that the Linux version
uses a different garbage collection library than the MacOS X one and the
former one is linked statically, if I recall correctly.

Yes, you do need a recent version of the Boehm Demers Weiser garbage
collector installed.
